Nowadays, most children are excited about their visits to the dentist. Responsibility lies with dentists, staff and parents to give children the confidence they need to maintain their teeth for all of their lives by making dental visits as positive as possible.

A dental examination on a child should include assessment of:[/panel-header][panel-content]
- Existing and future risk of gum disease and tooth decay
- The shape of the upper and lower jaws and how they relate to each other (skeletal pattern and occlusion)
- Possibility of missing or impacted adult teeth
- The need to refer the child to see an orthodontist
