“In my opinion, cosmetic dentistry has to make a very significant improvement to one’s appearance and at the same time appear completely natural. This is where the boundaries of science and art become blurred and somewhat philosophical.”
A dental crown is a bespoke porcelain replacement for a natural crown. The crown is the part of the tooth above the gum. The crown sits on top of the root.
When we use the term ‘crown’, what we really mean is a ‘prosthetic (artificial) crown’.
A crown is recommended when a natural crown has been weakened by a large filling, root canal treatment or decay.
Typically 4 weeks from preparation of the tooth to fitting; as little as two weeks if a quick turn-around is required.
If good oral hygiene is maintained, we expect the following lifespans:
Gold Crown: 25-35 years
Porcelain Crown: 10-20 years
